Come and join us for two nights of fabulous movies on EMiNA Movie Marathon! We will be showing four Japanese movies, featuring some of the best titles to come out of Japan in 2008, including The Sky Crawlers and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.

Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea

Sousuke, a young boy, befriends a strange looking goldfish whom he names Ponyo. Unbeknownst to Sousuke, Ponyo is a magic fish who has decided that she wants to live with Sousuke and the other humans.

Unfortunately, Ponyo’s decision to give up her underwater life creates a crack in an ancient magic spell, and places the world in danger. Together, Sousuke and Ponyo must embark on a journey to set things right.

Hinokio – Inter Galactic Love

A recent accident has left Satoru Iwamoto temporarily wheelchair-ridden. In addition, the recent loss of his mother has thrown Satoru into a reclusive state, locking himself from the outside world.

However, in an effort to help Satoru recover from his injuries, his father, Kaoru, has designed a remote-controlled robot that will go to school in his place and allow him to interact with people and do normal things.

The Sky Crawlers

Kannami Yuichi is a “Kildren”, a fighter pilot recently sent to Urisu Base to replace a previous pilot killed in battle. Like the numerous genetically-engineered pilots before him, he does not age, only to live his life fighting and eventually dying in battle.

Rostock and Lautern, 2 different companies have been engaged in a brutal war that has no beginning or end, all for the entertainment of the people. Gradually, Yuichi befriends the base commander, a woman who endures a long dark past.

As their relationship grows, Yuichi learns the bittersweet moments of life, and the inescapable fate he has been placed in.

In the near future, the barriers of our world have been broken down by the net and by cybernetics, but this brings new vulnerability to humans in the form of brain-hacking.

When a rogue hacker known as ‘The Puppetmaster’ begins involving them in politics, Section 9, a group of cybernetically-enhanced cops, are called in to investigate and stop The Puppetmaster.

The pursuit will call into question what makes a human, and what “defines” a Puppetmaster in a world where the difference between human and machine has been blurred beyond recognition.
